ARK Group Services started life in 1999 as an electrical contractor, working for letting agents who needed a reliable local firm to test, certify and fix. As those agents’ portfolios grew, so did we — adding gas safety, plumbing and heating so a property manager could raise one job with one contractor rather than three.
When the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector Regulations arrived in 2020, every rented home in England needed an EICR inside a tight window. ARK’s office-led model — our own team arranging access, chasing keys and issuing certificates — is what let us deliver at that scale without the quality slipping. The second five-year cycle in 2025 proved it again.
Damp and mould became the next pressure point for our clients, and ARK React was built to answer it: surveyors who diagnose the cause rather than treat the symptom, and engineers who install the ventilation that fixes it. Most recently, with minimum EPC C on the horizon, we have added an EPC upgrade programme — portfolio screening, assessor-led plans and coordinated works.
ARK is owned and run by its two directors, James Smale and Kelvin Franklin. James is a qualified electrician whose grounding in BS 7671 and EICR methodology still shapes how our reports are written and coded. Through everything the model has not changed: a Woking office that picks up the phone, engineers who turn up when they say they will, and paperwork that lands in your inbox without being chased.
